LONDON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA - VALERY GERGIEV

USHER HALL - EDINBURGH
15 AUGUST

The neo-classical Symphony No 1 is amongst Prokofiev's most popular and accessible works - cheerful, uncomplicated yet unpredictable. The lesser-known Symphony No 2 reveals Prokofiev exploring mechanical sounds inspired by the spirit of modernisation in an industrial age.

Prokofiev's well-loved Violin Concerto No 1 is played by Leonidas Kavakos, returning to the Festival after his recital triumph in 2004. Symphony No 3 was adapted from the music of the dark and imposing opera The Fiery Angel.
